East-and-West Hanukkiah
Modeled on a Hanukkiah from northern Spain in southern France, ca 1300.
This Hanukkiah is based on one of the earliest European prototypes, which were made of cast bronze and were meant to be suspended on a wall or behind a door. Its intriguing design weds oriental and western elements: the central rosette evokes the stained-glass windows gracing the facade of European churches, while the row of horseshoe-shaped arches is typical of Muslim architecture. This combination of western and oriental styles characterized late medieval Spain.
This Hanukkiah is intended for oil instead of candles.
Measures: 9.85" wide, 9.85" tall and 3.5" deep
