Gold-filled jewelry has a minimum of 20% (by weight) layer of solid 14k gold is heat-bonded to brass that unlike plating, the gold is physically and permanently attached to the base. Since it is a much thicker layer of 14k gold it won’t rub off or chip in water or with wear.
