From the Back:
In 1996, culminating an intensive effort of fifteen years, the Skirball Cultural Center, an affiliate of Hebrew Union College, opened to the public on a 15-acre site in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles. A prime aim of the Cultural Center and its components, chief among them the Skirball Museum, is to demonstrate that the spirit of Jewish creativity, born in the ancient Near East, flourishes in the open society of America.
Distinctive museum exhibitions, programs in the arts, lectures, and conferences at the Cultural Center introduce visitors to the interaction between Jewish traditions and American democratic values. The Cultural Center strives to explore the adventure, struggle, and opportunity America has provided her diverse population, and thereby to offer new perspectives on the human spirit.
