Yahrzeit Candles
To commemorate a death, Jews use the Yiddish word Yahrzeit (or Yarzeit; meaning "year time"). On the anniversary of a loved one's death, it is customary to light a twenty-four-hour memorial candle on the eve of the Yahrzeit date.
