Mithila paintings, also known as Madhubani paintings, are a form of Indian folk art marked for their intricate, geometric patterns and are created almost exclusively by female artists. Named for their region of origin, Mithila paintings are usually created on the plaster walls of the home, though artists have more recently begun to use paper and textiles.
One painting features Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity (at left), while the other features Krishna, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, the creator and destroyer (at right). Both paintings are done on paper. Please specify at checkout which painting you would like to purchase in the "Comments" area.
